City of Joensuu

Joensuu, the capital of the North Karelia province is located in the eastern part of Finland near the Russian border which is only 70 kilometers away from the city center. The city was founded by Czar Nicholas I in 1848. Today the total population of the city is approximately 72 000 and the surface area is 2 382  km².TaitoShop

Joensuu is within easy reach by plane, train, bus or car from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. There are six flights in both directions between Helsinki and Joensuu each working day and three flights on weekend. The flight time is appr. one hour, and it takes less than 15 minutes to drive from the airport to the centre of Joensuu. There are also five train services in each direction between the two cities every day. By train or by car the trip trough 440 kilometers of scenic countryside takes about five hours. There are also five daily bus connections, travelling time being about seven hours.

Joensuu is very lively study city having the University of Eastern Finland with 8 400 students in Joensuu Campus and University of Applied Sciences of with 4 000 students and vocational education and training in the North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium with nearly 8 000 students.

The city of Joensuu is well equipped to meet all requirements with respect to both meeting and exhibition facilities, and hotel accommodation. The city and its environments offer lots of opportunities for excursions and leisure activities.
